Based on general LJ buzz, and my own bad mood, I wasn't going to watch this. But then suburbannoir was going to watch it, and I was like, "PEEPS CAN'T BE WATCHING STUFF WITHOUT ME!" So, for the first time ever, the House o' Squid watched some New Who as a family.

Speaking of massive hubris that offends the gods: JMS has a commentary on "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars". I dread to imagine what it contains, but unless I am reassured that it consists of a forty-odd minute apology, I doubt I'll be watching it.

I'm having a little woe thing about an essay of mine that's about to
be published that includes two quotes from two different songs. The
longest quote is 12 words. The essay is not criticism but personal
non-fiction that's about love and survival. The anthology is a
commercial effort, but unlikely to produce significant returns for
myself for the publisher. Does this fall under fair use? And if so,
does anyone have a link I can provide the publisher, or else I'm going
to have to gut the essay, which is annoying especially when trying to
engage such matters from afar on a tight deadline.
Any and all grumpiness here is not related to the publisher, who's a
doll for catching this and making an effort to solve it at this late
date, but the fact that it's early in the morning in Zurich and I'm
jet-lagged.
Merci!

Dearest reviewers at FF.net:
If you have a complaint or a question about the fic, would it kill you to leave a way for the author to reach you?
And with that in mind:
Dear particular reviewer:
While most teachers will tell you that redundancy within a text is something you should avoid - and they are right to a degree - there is another side to redundancy that is often ignored and it doesn't necessarily have to be bad.
It helps create a tone. Using some key words within your paragraphs and sentences will help you create a mood and a setting for a story. While it would be dangerous for a whole book to have the exact same tone because it can get boring, this can really help when it's a short story or, in this case, a one shot fic.
I'm not saying that I succeeded within the fic, but I can assure you: I repeated words constantly within the fic knowingly. I'm sorry that it didn't work for you.
However, if you mean the fact that I use the names of the characters rather than 'the blonde', 'the brunette', or thing like that, and thus the names appear rather frequently? Then I'm very, very sorry, but I'm going to keep on using names and keep the epithet to a minimum.

Dear specific Clerith writers,
The next time you write a fanfiction for Cloud and Aerith... put it under Cloud and Aerith!! I am so tired of clicking on a fanfiction that has been labeled as a Cloud and Tifa, under Romance and finding out that it's all about Cloud and Aerith. I understand the whole,"But, it's main focus is on Cloud and Tifa, and how Tifa is responding to Cloud and Aerith's romantic relationship..." Yeeeeeah. The ones that I'm complaining about don't involve or mention Tifa whatsoever.
Thank you,
Me.

Dear author,
Being best friends + having great sex + doing fun stuff together =/= being married. It calls differently in real life (like "dating", "having long-term relationship", if you aren't actually married or living together?). Marriage of any form in general requires all this components but is not defined by them.
Also, the thought. Acting “like old married couple” is not the same as “being married” either.
With love,
Me.
Edit for clarification. Two times
For any mistakes sorry in advance.

Hello everyone!
A few new Texas wrockers and myself want to put on a show around the beginning of the year, but we have no idea where to have it!
It wouldn't be too big of a problem if we were all from the same city, but we're from all over. We have had a hard time finding places to play because we're not Catchlove or Mudbloods. Jace is making more music again so we're going to see if Catchlove will headline for us, but its a long shot.
We have played library shows in Granbury, TX but no one knows what wizard rock is there and we want to play to an audience that will be excited to hear new bands. We're also hoping to play shortly before OKCYB in February and hope some Texoma folks will cole. We wanted to do something around January 2nd or 3rd. A New Year's Wrock Bash type thing, ya know? But we have no idea where to look.
If anyone has any suggestions in the DFW or Austin area, we'd greatly appreciate it!
Oh and here are the bands that wanna play:
Statutory Snape (Houston)
Kwikspell (Houston)
Sweetwater All-Stars (Lubbock)
Secondhand Magic Supplies (Denton)
Wrackspurt! (Clearlake/Houston)
Hope you guys have some suggestions for us!
Thanks in advance,
Beth from KwikSpell

Umm, I'm not so sure why Nodoka would need to make a deal with Ritsu not to shut down the club just to see Yui cause really they live pretty close to each other. So as such, I do not see why she would need to threaten non-con with Ritsu. And in regards to another fic, given how Ui was serving tea for everyone in episode 3 I do not see why she'd be getting jealous of Yui's friend or her guitar.

I'm not doing Yuletide this year. This year's deadline falls right when we'll be getting ready for our trip, and I didn't think I was going to have the bandwidth to deal with writing fic in a fandom I don't usually write in for a strict deadline. But I kind of miss being a part of all of the excitement.
On the other hand, my Podbang is going along pretty well. I HATE Audacity, I really do. It's not easy to use--why in the hell can't you record over something, or stop and start without creating a new track?--and it crashes a lot and doesn't autosave. I'm about halfway through with 4 hours of recording, although a lot of that will need to be edited. Although I have limited times I can record, because of my wacky schedule, I can take my machine to work and edit on my lunch hour.
Everyone's very excited about AO3, and while I'm glad to see that it's in open beta at last, my two attempts to upload have been exercises in frustration. I still don't understand the tagging system--and yes, I have read
zvi's post--but for me, having tags for genre and communities and specific elements of a fic all lumped into one cloud make it difficult to know how to tag my fic, and how to search for something I want. While I'm glad that the Archive is RPF-friendly, the design and implementation don't work very well for RPF. And I really don't like the warnings options, because they don't leave enough flexibility for the authors or provide clear, straightforward warnings for the readers. I may try again later, but right now, it's not working for me.

So... you have a couple of characters who are good at killing the supernatural beasties out there. They know how to take down all sorts of nasties. They're also brothers- Sam and Dean Winchester.
They're experts. In their own canon.
You have another show where there are supernatural creatures that follow different rules, with people who know how to take them out. Those people are Buffy Summers and her friends.
Do everyone a favor and don't portray Sam and Dean as idiots if they encounter some creature from Buffy.
Seriously, don't. Sam and Dean are experts in their own canon. Just because what they do won't work in Buffy the Vampire Slayer world does not make them stupid.
Also, you really have to work to make those two canons mesh well. The rules for vampires, werewolves, and demons are very different. You, buddy, just make it so the Winchesters are wrong about almost everything, and they only deal with minor threats- and that's not the way to do it.
Of course, I think I've seen it done the opposite way, where the BtVS crew doesn't know what's out there, too. It's just as annoying that way, too.

I watched last week's Castle, NCIS: Los Angeles, and one episode of Wednesday's Ghost Hunters tonight. I think this was the best NCIS:LA show of the season - ( SPOILERS! ) - and Castle was awesome as usual.
I then watched the Criminal Minds episodes on A&E and was amused to see that they were the same three episodes that we'd seen originally in Chicago, which were the ones that got me watching the show this season.
I also watched the Rams ALMOST beat the Saints (I can handle losses like that, because at least we looked decent!). So basically I watched a lot of TV and did absolutely nothing else. :)
It's pouring down rain outside, and I have a slight headache, so am probably going to head to bed soon. Tomorrow starts yet another week. Funny how that always happens. :-P

One of the awesome things about Yuletide is that it brings people together and lets them revel in their chared fandoms. Unfortunately, the anonymity means that you don't always find out what everyone's fandoms are. So if you're holding a friending meme to bring your tiny fandom together, post it here!

I really just have two things to say:
1.) Lindsay Duncan was fantastic.
2.) ( Spoiler. )
...that was more than two things, wasn't it?
